Eagles out of W/Cup - Yobo

Written by Erinle Funmi Friday, 18 June 2010

SUPER Eagles assistant captain, Joseph Yobo, has said that Nigeria may have reached the end of the road in the ongoing World Cup in South Africa, after a 1-2 loss to Greece on Thursday in a Group B match in Bloemfontein.

Yobo pointed out that it will be highly difficult for Nigeria to advance to the second round of the tournament saying the team did not put the right attitude in the match against the Greeks.

According to the Everton defender, losing two matches in a row has placed Nigeria on a tight rope with the hope of qualifying very slim.

"Practically, we are out of the tournament because even if we win the last match, it's going to be difficult for us to qualify. The game against Korea will be highly difficult. It will not be easy against the Koreans," Yobo said.

He pointed out that Nigeria showed a lot of inexperience against the Greeks and paid dearly for it.

Yobo blamed Sani Kaita's sending off as the turning point adding that it affected the players resulting in the loss.

"We should have shown a lot of character in the match and some of our players are inexperienced as well. We were in control of the game before the red card, we should have done a bit much better," Yobo submitted.

Meanwhile, Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama won the Man of The Match award for the second time running.
