Nigeria are facing a defensive crisis ahead of next Tuesday's final group game against South Korea in Durban, with both left backs nursing various degrees of injury.
First choice left back Taye Taiwo limped off with a groin injury after 55 minutes. His replacement Elderson Echiejile lasted only 22 minutes before he also had to hobble off with an injury.
On Friday, Echiejile worked out with team physiotherapist Dayo Ogunkunle away from the rest of the squad while Taiwo did not train at all.
NFF Executive Committee member Taiwo Ogunjobi told KickOffNigeria.com that the Olympic Marseille fullback will have a scan on Saturday.
"Taiwo has been scheduled for a scan on Saturday," Ogunjobi said. "It is only after that happens that we can say exactly what will happen."
Lagerback's options are limited in the absence of both left backs. Sani Kaita, who was deployed there against Argentina is suspended after his expulsion against Greece.
Centreback Rabiu Afolabi, who was thrown in there after Echiejile limped off did not exactly inspire confidence, leaving Lars Lagerback with the option of playing rightback Chidi Odiah at the opposite end.
Odiah started out as a left midfielder and is as comfortable with his right foot as he is with his left. In which case, Afolabi or Dele Adeleye could slot into right back.
