FORMER Nigeria youth international, Yakubu Alfa has quit Greek club Xanthi for a shot at top flight action in Russia. According to his handlers, Alfa will start out at club Dynamo Bryansk with the target of moving up to the Russian Premier League come next season.
"Yakubu will soon join Bryansk in the Russian first division. He has quit Xanthi and all arrangements have been concluded for his move to Russia," the player's representative, Usman Alfa, told MTNFootball.com.
"His agent, who also handles other players like Yaya Toure, Haruna Babangida and Sani Kaita, has revealed that the bigger plan is for Yakubu to be featuring in the Russian top division." Alfa, 19, is one of Nigeria's most promising holding midfielders. An influential member of Nigeria's team who clinched the 2007 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, Alfa has already starred for Helsingborgs in Sweden as well as briefly for Germinal Beerschot in Belgium.
